چکیده

Generating composite human motion such as locomotion and gestures is important for interactive applications, such as interactive storytelling and computer games. In interactive story environments, CG characters do not merely stand in one position. Rather, they should be able to compose gestures and locomotion based on the discourse of the story and the locations of objects in the scene. Thus, in the present paper, we propose a conversational locomotion model for CG character. We constructed a conversational locomotion network for a virtual environment. A multi-path searching algorithm calculates the optimal walking path, which uses node activation from the story locations and conversation units. The CG character also locally adjusts its position so that it does not block the referenced object from the user’s sight. We have applied the proposed technique to an interactive 3D movie system and have demonstrated composite motion of the locomotion and conversation of a CG character, which improves the immersion of the viewer in the story environment.

Interactive Characters for Cultural Training of Small Military Units

CHAOS, the Combat Hunter Action and Observation Simulation, is an immersive simulation training environment which gives small military units the experience of interacting with local Afghan villagers during a patrol. It is a physical build-out of a housing compound in a mock Afghan village, with several lifesize reactive and interactive animated Pashto-speaking virtual characters. The exercise r...

Building Performance Visualization Using Augmented Reality

Magnetic motion trackers have been widely used for tracking user head / hand pose information owing to their advantages such as size, occlusion-less tracking environment and high sample rate. Yet, issues such as latency and jitter leave magnetic tracker technology unfavorable as compared to other tracker technologies. While latency is due to tracker hardware employed, jitter is due to magnetic ...

Interpreting User’s Attention as Engagement Cues in Multiparty Immersive Conversations

In this position paper, we propose a basic idea of conversational agents aware of user’s engagement signals in an immersive multiparty conversation environment. Our discussion includes a mechanism for interpreting user’s attentional behaviors as communicative signals, and a conversation state model that provides contextual information in interpreting the behaviors.

Perception in Immersive Environments

Immersive environment (virtual reality) systems provide a unique way for researchers to perform experiments in completely controlled environments. Virtual environments enable researchers to create experiments that would not be easily created in the real world due to physical limitations. This paper will discuss some of the problems facing immersive systems and explore how they might be resolved...
